Chelmarsh Cricket Club Awards Night
The Chelmarsh Cricket Club Awards were held on the 13th November 2021 at Chelmarsh Sports & Social Club. The committee agreed upon a different format for the event in 2021. An awards presentation followed by a pig roast and a race night was the agreed upon format.
This proved to be an enlightened decision. Our profits for the night were up by 400% on previous years where we have had a sit down meal.
Robert ‘Wobbler’ Price was the host for the evening and, in front of full house; he presented in his own unique style of one liners, quips and audience interaction.
However, the award winners were the stars of the show and they were as follows: –
Clubman of the Year & 2nd XI Batting Awards
Matthew, sponsored for the 2021 season by Nock Deighton Agricultural LLP, was once again voted by the club membership as Clubman of the Year, our most prestigious award.
It was truly well deserved as Matthew is Mr Chelmarsh. He covers multiple roles including Secretary and Head Groundsman. He spends numerous hours at Chelmarsh Cricket Club ensuring the guys had a fantastic pitch to perform on.
Matthew also got the 2nd XI batting award for 2021. He was the rock batting at number 4 with final 2021 season statistics of 412 runs, from 12 innings (3 not out) at an average of 45.78 with a high score of 85*. Matthew scored 3 half centuries.
1st XI Player of the Year Award
Charlie was voted as the 1st XI Player of the Year by his peers in the first team.
He had an exceptional year for the club. Scoring runs on a regular basis and never letting his captain down when he was required to bowl.
Charlie’s final 2021 season batting statistics were 580 runs, from 14 innings (3 not out) at an average of 52.73 with a high score of 115. Charlie scored 5 half centuries and 2 centuries.
Charlie’s final 2021 season bowling statistics were 17 wickets from 80.3 overs. These were taken at an average of 20.71 and a strike rate of 28.41. Charlie had an economy rate of 4.37.
2nd XI Player of the Year Award
Paul, sponsored by Stephen Zayler, had his ‘Season in the Sun’ in 2021. Culminating in him being voted as 2nd XI Player of the Year by his peers in the second team.
He has spent the majority of his Chelmarsh career being a captain’s friend; helping out when short and stepping down for younger member of the squad to play and develop but with the birth of the second XI Paul was finally able to show off his true talents. Paul also received a call up to the Shropshire over 50’s cricket squad and played multiple games for their second XI.
His main role for the 2021 season was as an opening bowler and week in, week out he stepped up to the plate with final 2021 season statistics of 12 wickets from 101 (yes, 101) overs at an average of 34.67 and a strike rate of 50.50. Paul had an economy rate of 4.12.
However, Paul also developed into a top order batsman for the team scoring 173 runs at an average of 15.73 with a top score of 49. 2022 promises to be even better for the youngest ‘old man’ in the club.
1st XI Batting, 1st XI Bowling and 1st XI Most 6’s Awards
Connor, sponsored by John Snocken Studio Pottery, had the type of season we have become to expect from Chelmarsh’s Mr Cricket. Having Connor at the club is truly a blessing.
His vision as captain, runs scored and wickets taken were a huge reason that we were able to realise our dreams of promotion to Division One.
Connor’s final 2021 season batting statistics were an impressive 856 runs, from 16 innings (1 not out) at an average of 57.07 with a high score of 148. Connor scored 5 half centuries and 2 centuries.
Connor’s final 2021 season bowling statistics were 21 wickets from 96.1 overs at an average of 16.86 and a strike rate of 27.48. Connor had an economy rate of 3.68.
2nd XI Bowling Award
Rob, sponsored for the 2021 season by Nock Deighton Agricultural LLP, claimed the 2021 2nd XI bowling award.
He was one of the 2nd XI success stories and proof that our 2nd team ethos of developing players by giving them meaningful cricket works.
Rob started the first league game of the season as the 6th change bowler and ended up with match day figures of 4 wickets for 10 runs. This feat was made even more impressive when you factor in that St Georges scored over 290 runs in 40 overs.
Rob continued to take wickets throughout the season and ended up with final 2021 statistics of 16 wickets from 42.2 overs at an average of 19.50 and a strike rate of 15.88. Rob had an economy rate of 7.37.
