First XI

Our First XI is a family orientated group of talented cricketers where everyone is welcome, and we leave nobody behind. The First XI play to win, but always with a smile on our faces.

Team History

Chelmarsh Cricket Club has been one of Shropshire’s cricketing success stories of recent years. Not only have our squad numbers been on the up consistently in the past few years, so has our league position. From finishing in 3rd position in Division 4 in 2018, we have since gone on to achieve promotion up 3 divisions in 3 years; including a league title in 2019. Not even a global pandemic was able to stop us and after promotion into Division 2 in 2021, a second 2nd place finish has seen us promoted in Division 1 for the 2022 season; the highest league cricket that the club has ever played in its 120 year history.

Our Ethos

The first XI is about giving people the opportunity to enjoy their cricket to the fullest through realising their potential and competing at a high level of club cricket. However, players should not give up their time on a weekend to feel pressured or judged by teammates. We offer a safe space where great performances are championed and we always support each other along our cricketing journey. Individuals are encouraged to be themselves here. We want players to enjoy their cricket.

The Match Day Experience

The match day atmosphere at a First XI game is exciting, fun and full of energy.  We have a loyal fans base of all ages who inspire us to succeed and push the club forward. Opposition teams enjoy playing away at Chelmarsh thanks to the idyllic scenery, friendly locals and outstanding social facilities in the adjacent sports and social club.

Why Choose Chelmarsh?

We believe that we have a lot to offer any prospective member. Especially those that are seeking enjoyment from the game, for relatively low membership fees, at £60 per season and £6 per week match fee.

We have current playing, and non-playing, members from a diverse range of backgrounds, and an array of cricketing experience, from around the world. Our First XI are always looking to strengthen our squad and new players are more than welcome!

If any of this appeals to you then we hold preseason nets on a Sunday. During the season we hold training sessions at the ground on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

You can also contact Andy, via email, on [email protected] or contact the club via Twitter or Facebook for more details
